Writing and Exporting Reports

Kantrad includes a built-in report editor so you can write your radiology reports right alongside the images you are reviewing. No need to switch to a separate application.

Report Structure

When you start a new report, Kantrad provides four sections to guide your writing:

  1. INDICATION — Why was this exam ordered? (for example, “chest pain, rule out pneumonia”)
  2. TECHNIQUE — What imaging method was used? (for example, “CT chest with IV contrast”)
  3. FINDINGS — What do you see in the images?
  4. IMPRESSION — Your summary and conclusions.

These sections are just starting points. You can type freely anywhere, add content between sections, or remove sections you do not need.

Formatting Your Text

The toolbar at the top of the report editor gives you the usual formatting options:

  • Bold (Cmd+B), Italic (Cmd+I), Underline (Cmd+U)
  • Strikethrough and highlight
  • Bullet lists and numbered lists
  • Text alignment (left, centre, right)

Inserting Images and Measurements

You can enrich your report with images and data from the viewer:

  1. Capture a screenshot: Click the camera icon in the report toolbar. This takes a snapshot of whatever is currently showing in the viewer and places it in your report.
  2. Insert measurements: Click the ruler icon to add all your measurements from the viewer into the report.
  3. Add a divider line: Click the horizontal rule button to insert a visual separator between sections.

Using AI to Help Write Your Report

Kantrad can use AI to assist you (requires a licence key and AI to be set up — see the AI Configuration guide):

  • Analyse the image: Click the sparkles icon in the toolbar. The AI examines the current image and suggests content for the Findings section.
  • Generate an impression: Click the brain icon. The AI reads your findings and drafts a summary for the Impression section.

You always have the final say — review and edit any AI suggestions before finalising.

Using Voice Dictation

Click the microphone icon in the toolbar (or press F2) to dictate your report by speaking. See the Voice Dictation guide for full details.

Report Templates

Kantrad can automatically fill in parts of your report based on the type of study:

  • Automatic templates: When you open a study, Kantrad applies a matching template based on the imaging type and body part. This only happens if you have not already started writing a report for that study.
  • Choose a different template: Use the template dropdown at the top of the report to pick a different one.
  • Create your own templates: Go to Settings, then Report Templates to create custom templates that match your preferred reporting style.

Reviewing and Exporting

When you are ready to review your report, click the Review button. This opens a preview showing:

  • Patient information at the top
  • Your full report text
  • Your signature (set up in Settings under Account)
  • The report status: Draft, Final, or Addendum

From the review screen, you can:

  1. Save as Draft — Save your work and come back to it later.
  2. Finalise — Mark the report as complete. Once finalised, the report cannot be edited. You can only add an addendum.
  3. Add Addendum — Add a dated addition to a finalised report.
  4. Export as PDF — Create a PDF file with patient information, your report, and optionally any key images you captured.

Right-Click Options

Right-clicking inside the report editor gives you quick access to:

  • Cut, copy, paste, and select all
  • A list of measurements from the viewer that you can insert individually or all at once
